There's No Place Like Home, Even When You're Far Away!

(Providence, Rhode Island)

A little bit of my hometown, Milwaukee, came to Providence today, and I had a blast! As a third-generation Marquette University graduate, I just had to see the Warriors (Sorry, Golden Eagles! They'll always be the Warriors to the Curtis family.) play the Providence Friars!

So, wearing my dad's lucky blue jacket and carrying my sister Tracy's lucky key chain (both of which I deemed lucky since we're Irish), I entered The Dunkin' Donuts Center in downtown Providence, better known as "The Dunk!"

Although I was photographed with some young Friar fans (one of whose dads gave me a courtside ticket), I cheered for Marquette all the way! Providence led almost the entire game, mostly on the shoulders of sophomore Greedy Peterson, who is destined to be an All-American. What a great "dunker" he is!

But Marquette came roaring back midway through the second half, and led by seven point with one minute to go. Believe it or not, Providence College suddenly scored six points in less than five seconds; and all of a sudden the game was a cliffhanger.

PC barely missed a three-point shot at the buzzer, and Marquette went on to an 82-79 win in one of the best college basketball games I have ever seen.

It was great to see so many Marquette shirts in the crowd, as MU has a lot of East Coast alumni. The whole day took me back to my Milwaukee hometown. Cheers to a fun day and a great game.

We'll have the highlights tonight on the ABC6 News at 6 and 11. Check in at www.ABC6.com.

Congrats on Marquette, but today belongs to Purdue University. Drew Brees(Purdue alumni) is not only the MVP of the Super Bowl, but also a man of integrity whose generosity helped save the city of New Orleans. Watching legend Lenny Dawson(Purdue Alumni)give the Vince Lombardi trophy to Drew Brees,is further evidence of why any quality quarterback, and quality person, should make Purdue your first school of choice. Go Boilermakers!

Glad to hear you had a great time cheering on our alma mater! They will always be the WARRIORS to me, too...Ty
